The Neighborhood
Echo Park is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Located about two miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, Echo Park is an incredibly diverse and culturally rich neighborhood that is more than a century old.  The Historic Echo Park web site is maintained by the Echo Park Historical Society (EPHS).

The EPHS and members of the Right Site Coalition are opposed to the demolition of a two block area of Echo Park by the Los Angeles school district.  The construction of a new school on s Site 9A   would mean the largest loss of homes in the area since the Chavez Ravine neighborhood was destroyed. The EPHS has opposed the project  in light of a sharp drop of enrollment and nearby alternative sites. Most of the residents have moved out of their homes under the threat of eminent domain.
